The most current BLS fatality event data, for the years 2003-06, shows that overall workplace homicides dropped to 10% of workplace fatalities, while overall workplace fatality rate dropped to 4, so the overall fatality rate from homicide for 2003-06 was halved, down to 0.4 homicides per 100,000 workers.
During the same period, police fatality rate from homicide was 6.8 homicides per 100,000 workers: over sixteen times the homicide risk for the average worker.
Note: The new occupational category for police, introduced in 2003, resulted in a smaller worker count. This led to fatality rates increasing, even as the number of fatalities decreased. |
